OPENS: 21 April, 2026 CLOSES:  5 May, 2026 The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) seeks an NH-1102-04 Supervisory Contract Specialist (Deputy Director) 009269321M to ensure our nation’s most powerful weapon systems are never doubted, always feared. This Deputy Director of Contracting position supports the development, modernization, and sustainment of programs within the Air Force Program Executive Officer - Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (AFPEO/NI), AFPEO - Nuclear Air Delivered (AFPEO/NAD), Air Force Portfolio Acquisition Executive - Nuclear Command, Control, and Communication (AFPAE/NC3) portfolios, as well as headquarters support. Duties of this position may be performed at Kirtland AFB, Hanscom AFB, or Hill AFB. This position is a NH-1102-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $127,141 - $194,417 (Includes locality) – Kirtland, AFB (a relocation incentive may be available) This position is a NH-1102-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $142,452 - $197,200 (Includes locality) – Hanscom, AFB This position is a NH-1102-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $125,776 - $192,331 (Includes locality) – Hill, AFB **IMPORTANT**

ABOUT THE ROLE: As the Deputy Director, you will provide executive leadership and management for the Directorate of Contracting, shaping procurement strategy, advising senior leaders, and engaging industry to support the center’s mission across seven geographically separated contracting offices. Supported programs include:
  • Sentinel and Minuteman III ICBMs
  • Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications Systems
  • Long Range Standoff Weapon, Air-Launched Cruise Missile, and the B-61 Tail Kit Assembly
  • Various advanced science & technology, Small Business Innovation Research, and Other Transaction Authority efforts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide executive leadership and oversight for directorate personnel and contracting functions to ensure a highly skilled workforce and mission effectiveness.
  • Lead and advise chiefs of the contracting office on the development and implementation of acquisition and contracting strategies for major systems, software, production, and non-traditional procurements supporting a complex and dynamic portfolio of classified and unclassified contracts.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the center commander and multiple AFPEOs/AFPAEs and staff directorates, providing expert guidance on contracting solutions to modernize and recapitalize critical capabilities.
  • Develop, manage, integrate, and deliver complex supported/supporting organize, train, and equip relationships.
  • Lead and manage the directorate’s response to taskers and inquiries from MAJCOM, Headquarters Air Force, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Acts on behalf of the director, exercising Senior Contracting Official and Senior Center Functional authority.
  • Serve as the center’s commercial and competition advocate. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
  • At least five years of USAF 1102 experience within the last eight years at the NH-IV level or equivalent, or higher.
  • At least five years of experience as a 2nd Level supervisor or higher.
  • At least 15 years’ experience as an unlimited warrant Contracting Officer.
  • Experience successfully simultaneously managing multiple contracts of varying types, including firm-fixed price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost-plus-award-fee, etc.
  • Experience reviewing and providing executive-level feedback on acquisition and contracting documentation with a demonstrated record of successful outcomes.
  • Experience successfully managing and responding to MAJCOM level or higher taskers related to contracting operations and other matters.
  • A proven track record of leading significant organizational change.
  • Executive-level communication, diplomacy, and networking skills with a history of successful engagement with senior leaders.
  • Desired: An advanced academic degree, completion of Intermediate Developmental Education, and/or Senior Developmental Education.
  • Desired: Direct contracting support to nuclear weapon systems.
  • Desired: At least 10 years’ experience supporting ACAT I major weapon systems and/or S-CAT I service contracts preferred. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP
  • DAWIA Contracting Professional Certification.
  • Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain and hold a TS/SCI security clearance. Failure to obtain or maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Current or previous earned unlimited DAF contracting officer warrant.
  • This is a drug testing position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • An advanced degree and completion of Intermediate and Senior Development Education (IDE/SDE) are highly desirable.
  • The employee must meet the continuing acquisition education requirements IAW DoDI 5000.66 paragraph E2.2.8.
  • In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee is required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
  • The position requires recurring travel and may be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of assigned duties.
