Position Overview
A large manufacturing operation in Augusta County, VA is looking for an experienced Maintenance & Engineering Manager to lead the plant’s maintenance, engineering, reliability, utilities, and capital-project functions.
This is a hands-on leadership role supporting a 24/7 manufacturing environment. The person hired will lead a technical team, help improve equipment reliability, support daily production needs, and manage long-term plant improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead maintenance and engineering supervisors, engineers, technicians, planners, and contractors
- Improve preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs
- Reduce downtime and eliminate recurring mechanical, electrical, and process issues
- Improve maintenance planning, scheduling, work-order execution, and CMMS usage
- Oversee plant utilities, facilities, production equipment, and infrastructure
- Lead capital projects, equipment upgrades, installations, commissioning, and startups
- Manage maintenance, engineering, and capital budgets
- Track reliability, equipment availability, maintenance costs, and other performance measures
- Partner with operations, EHS, quality, finance, and plant leadership
- Develop technical employees through coaching, training, and clear expectations
- Manage vendors, contractors, engineering firms, and equipment suppliers
- Provide leadership during shutdowns, major breakdowns, and urgent plant issues
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field
- Maintenance, engineering, reliability, or technical leadership experience in manufacturing
- Experience supporting a 24/7 or continuous-process operation
- Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance, CMMS systems, and root-cause analysis
- Experience managing plant utilities, facilities, production equipment, and capital projects
- Familiarity with industrial controls, automation, PLCs, motors, drives, pumps, compressors, and rotating equipment
- Experience leading engineers, supervisors, technicians, and contractors
- Strong budgeting, project-management, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable spending time on the plant floor and supporting major issues outside normal business hours
