Job Overview
Work with a young adult who has developmental and physical disabilities, so they can live as independently as possible. Provide total assistance with everyday tasks and personal care. Personal care tasks include assisting with personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, and ambulation. They require full assistance with most activities. Looking for someone with experience with people who have physical and developmental disabilities, whether it be on a personal level or professional level. The job will involve taking the individual out into the community to expose them to new opportunities and classes. The young adult uses vocalizations, eye gaze, gestures, and sometimes a tablet to communicate. Staff will work with the individual to reach personal goals. Desired days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Tuesday and Thursday are 3pm-6pm or 7pm. Sunday there are no set hours in mind. Looking for up to 18 hours per week
The hired staff will be a contracted employee of AIM Independent Living Center. The family of the individual worked with will be the ones in charge of hiring, firing, setting the pay, and the schedule. AIM Independent Living Center will be responsible for benefits and payroll.
Responsibilities:
- Assist client with daily living skills and personal care.
- Take/accompany the client to social activities and recreational outings.
- Need to be able to use a smartphone for documenting services.
- Work with the family, caregivers, and other professionals to provide comprehensive support for the client.
- Effective communication skills.
- Reports changes in client's condition to family.
- Encourage self-help activities.
- Ensures client safety and maintains a safe environment.
- Foster positive relationships between the caretakers and individuals served.
- 1 on 1 supervision in the community.
- Physical assistance to evacuate in an emergency.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates ideally possess experience or knowledge in the following areas:
- Background in special education or related fields is a plus.
- Skills in assisting individuals with various challenges while maintaining a positive environment.
- Basic Life Saving/First Aid Training
