Fiberglass Mould & Plug Builder - Tooling Division
Payrate: $ $27.00 per hour based on Experience.
The Fiberglass Mould & Plug Builder is responsible for the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of fiberglass moulds and prototype plugs used in pool manufacturing. This role supports ALT's Opp, Alabama production operations through safe, high-quality tooling practices, ensuring each mould and plug meets dimensional accuracy, finish standards, and durability requirements.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabricate, repair, and maintain fiberglass moulds and plugs according to design and quality specifications.
- Perform sanding, filling, bogging, and polishing of plugs and mould surfaces to achieve dimensional accuracy and high-gloss finishes.
- Apply gelcoat, resins, and fiberglass materials in controlled layers to meet engineering and durability standards.
- Interpret and follow work orders, technical drawings, and design templates.
- Conduct pre- and post-production inspections to verify mould surface integrity and structural soundness.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and ALT safety protocols, including PPE, resin handling, and ventilation requirements.
- Perform self-checks and report nonconformances to QA or the Production & QA Supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, materials, and workspace per ALT's 6S (sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain, safety) standards.
- Assist with safe lifting, moving, and positioning of large moulds and plugs using approved equipment and rigging methods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Hands-on experience in fiberglass moulding, lamination, and gelcoat finishing.
- Ability to interpret and follow technical drawings, templates, and work instructions.
- Understanding of composite material behavior and curing processes.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements, PPE use, and safe chemical handling (29 CFR
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks in a manufacturing environment.
Training and Certification Requirements
- OSHA 10-Hour Safety Course (preferred; provided by ALT if required).
- HAZCOM and PPE training (provided during onboarding).
- Fibreglass, resin, chemical-handling and equipment training (provided during onboarding).
- Forklift / Gantry / Confined Space training (preferred; or can be completed after starting).
- Manual handling and ergonomics training (provided during onboarding).
- 6S and new-hire orientation (provided during onboarding).

Performance will be evaluated based on:
- Quality of tooling finish, accuracy, and durability.
- Compliance with safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Efficiency in completing assigned work without rework or defects.
