Position Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations and serve as the primary liaison between AGX’s internal accounting staff and our Outsourced Controller. This role with own the day-to-day internal accounting operations of the company, including leadership of the transactional accounting team, coordination with the Outsourced Controller, and execution of all accounting activities required for timely closes, tax support, and financial reviews. This is a hands-on management role with a growth path as the company expands and continues to internalize key accounting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day internal accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely execution across the function
- Support the Controller in the close processes, including maintenance of the close calendar
- Oversee preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules
- Ensure accounting readiness for tax filings, financial reviews, and audits
- Review accounting work product for adherence to GAAP, internal policies, and control standards
- Support financial statement preparation and variance analysis for finance leadership
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes as the company scales
- Drive continuous improvement across accounting workflows and systems
- Develop the accounting function toward internal Controller-level ownership over time
Qualifications (Preferred, not Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Construction accounting experience, including ownership of close processes.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and operational accounting.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage processes end-to-end.
- Strong communication skills and comfort acting as a cross-functional liaison.
