Deseret Farms of California is seeking a knowledgeable Farm Lead to join our local farm team!
Summary:
The Farm Lead works under the direction of the Farm Unit Manager to lead field crews and carry out daily farm work. This role ensures tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule while maintaining crop quality and production goals.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily farm activities, including irrigation, spraying, fertilizing, harvesting, and general field work.
- Ensure work is completed on time and meets quality and productivity expectations.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment and irrigation systems to minimize downtime.
- Support crop health by managing irrigation, fertilizers, weed control, and replanting activities.
- Monitor field conditions and report issues related to crop health, pests, or growth.
- Assist in achieving yield, quality, and production targets.
- Lead and train farm crew members, assigning tasks and setting the pace for work.
- Work alongside employees to ensure tasks are completed correctly and efficiently.
- Communicate progress, issues, and improvement ideas to farm management.
- Follow and enforce all safety, food safety, and company policies.
- Ensure proper use of equipment and PPE.
- Report any safety or quality concerns immediately.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Knowledge of farm equipment operation and basic maintenance (tractors, sprayers, irrigation systems).
- Understanding of crop production practices (irrigation, fertilization, pest control, pruning).
- Ability to lead a team and work effectively with others.
- Strong communication and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate and calibrate equipment and calculate application rates.
- Valid driver’s license and pesticide applicator certification.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Willingness to work extended hours and flexible schedules as needed.

- Walking fields and sites; occasional lifting up to ~50 lbs; intermittent bending, climbing, or kneeling; use of controls, tools, and electronic devices; strong visual awareness and communication; physical effort is periodic, not sustained.
- Office and field environments; exposure to weather, dust, equipment, and noise; occasional exposure to chemicals; variable schedules including peak‑season hours; PPE required in designated field or shop areas.
