POSTED ON 10/20/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/18/2026

Location: Michigan City, Indiana
Pay: $29.00–$35.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated ability
Employment: Full-Time | Direct Hire

Agile Staffing is recruiting an experienced Level 3 CNC Machinist for an anticipated direct-hire opportunity with a manufacturing company in Michigan City, Indiana.

Candidates must have hands-on experience independently setting up and operating BOTH CNC mills and CNC lathes. This position requires advanced setup, CNC program editing, precision inspection, and independent troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform complex setups, changeovers, and operation of CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Take jobs from engineering drawings and setup documentation through first-piece inspection and production.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, tight tolerances, work orders, and setup sheets.
  • Select, install, and verify cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, jaws, and workholding for multiple operations and varying materials.
  • Set and verify tool lengths, work offsets, tool offsets, and wear offsets.
  • Review and edit CNC programs to correct dimensional issues and improve machining performance.
  • Select and adjust feeds, speeds, cutting conditions, and tooling for the operation.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, and thread gauges.
  • Independently troubleshoot machining, tooling, workholding, program, and dimensional problems.
  • Monitor tool wear and machine performance; make necessary tool changes and process adjustments.
  • Verify finished parts meet drawing and quality requirements before releasing them to the next operation.
  • Help improve cycle times, setup methods, tooling use, and material efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance to less-experienced operators and maintain accurate production and inspection records.
  • Follow safety and quality procedures and coordinate with maintenance, engineering, or quality when additional support is needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience setting up and operating both CNC milling and CNC turning equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to complete complex setups and changeovers with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming and demonstrated ability to independently make program edits and adjustments.
  • Strong blueprint-reading skills, including GD&T and tight-tolerance requirements.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and first-piece inspection.
  • Knowledge of feeds, speeds, insert selection, cutting conditions, and workholding.
  • Ability to independently identify and resolve machining, tooling, dimensional, and process problems.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound technical judgment, and effective communication skills.

This is an advanced machining position. Experience limited to loading parts, running established cycles, or making basic offset adjustments does not meet the requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience improving setup procedures, workholding, tooling methods, or machining processes.
  • Experience training or mentoring CNC operators.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Candidates with approximately 4–7 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated ability to perform the required work is more important than years of experience.
