This senior Civil Litigation Attorney role is responsible for independently managing insurance defense matters from inception through resolution, with a strong focus on high-quality advocacy, practical strategy, and clear client communication. Success in this position requires confident courtroom presence, excellent legal writing, and disciplined case management across a full docket. You will take ownership of litigation outcomes while maintaining professionalism with clients, adjusters, and opposing counsel.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a full caseload of insurance defense litigation matters independently, driving cases from initial evaluation through settlement or trial
- Develop case strategy, assess exposure, and advise clients and carriers on risk, resolution options, and next steps
- Draft and argue pleadings, dispositive motions, and evidentiary motions; prepare persuasive legal memoranda as needed
- Conduct written discovery, prepare and respond to discovery requests, and manage discovery disputes and motion practice
- Take and defend depositions, including expert and fact witness examinations
- Appear at hearings, mediations, and trials; prepare witnesses and deliver clear, organized advocacy in court and in ADR settings
- Communicate promptly and professionally with clients, adjusters, and opposing counsel, ensuring expectations and deadlines are managed effectively
- Maintain accurate case files, calendars, and litigation budgets; prioritize workload to meet competing deadlines and court requirements
Required Skills:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active bar membership/licensure in Colorado
- Minimum 5 years of civil litigation experience
- 5 years of insurance defense litigation experience, including matters such as auto, premises, and general liability
- Demonstrated ability to manage a full caseload independently, including deadline management and case ownership
- Experience conducting depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials
- Exceptional legal writing and oral advocacy skills, including motion practice and client-facing communication
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with consistent follow-through and attention to detail
Preferred Skills:
- Licensure in Wyoming and/or Nebraska
- Proven trial experience, including meaningful responsibility in trial preparation and in-court proceedings
