Location: Onsite in Downtown Atlanta, GA (5 days/week)
Employment Type: 6 Month Contract-to-Hire
Compensation: Up to $55/hour W-2 or $62/hour 1099 (independent consultant)
Conversion Salary: Target range $110k $120k base salary
Clearance: Ability to obtain Public Trust (sponsored after start; process ~4 weeks)

On-Call: Part of a light rotation; rare weekend work
Job Summary
We are seeking a Virtualization Engineer to support a mission-critical federal environment. This is a hands-on, fully onsite role responsible for supporting and operating a private cloud infrastructure, not just individual virtual machines.
The ideal candidate has deep experience with VMware virtualization platforms and the underlying infrastructure components that make up a private cloud, including storage, networking, and hardware management. This role requires strong platform-level troubleshooting skills and the ability to work within a secure, regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Support and manage VMware virtualization platforms, including full VM lifecycle operations.
- Perform platform-level troubleshooting related to performance, availability, storage, and networking.
- Administer and support NetApp SAN storage integrated with virtualized environments.
- Work with Brocade switches and underlying network components supporting the private cloud.
- Manage and monitor server hardware using Dell OpenManage and iDRAC.
- Support patching, upgrades, and maintenance of virtualization and infrastructure components.
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning compute, storage, and network layers.
- Document system configurations, architecture, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, network, and security teams to ensure platform stability and compliance.
- Participate in a light on-call rotation to support critical systems.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10 years of overall IT experience.
- 5 years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise virtualization environments.
- Strong experience with VMware v8/v9 (or equivalent enterprise VMware platforms).
- Experience supporting private cloud or platform engineering environments, not just VM administration.
- Hands-on experience with NetApp SAN storage.
- Familiarity with Brocade networking infrastructure.
- Experience managing server hardware using Dell OpenManage and iDRAC.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across compute, storage, and networking layers.
- Ability to work 100% onsite in a secure federal facility.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- VMware or infrastructure-related certifications.
- Experience supporting regulated or federal environments.
- Exposure to automation or infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring or observability tools.
- Experience working in DoD, NIST, CIS, or STIG-compliant environments.
Salary : $110,000 - $120,000
