Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Spotter supports drilling operations by providing ground-level guidance to experienced rock drill operators during equipment positioning, movement, and setup. This role plays a critical safety function by maintaining clear communication with operators, identifying hazards, and ensuring drills are maneuvered safely and efficiently in challenging terrain. The Heavy Equipment Spotter works closely with drill crews and field leadership to promote safe production, protect equipment, and maintain orderly jobsites.

Compensation

  • Wage Range: $20.00- $24.00/hour depending on experience
  • Full benefits package

Schedule

  • Typical schedule includes 12–14 hour shifts.

Job Requirements/ Qualifications

  • Industry Experience: Previous experience working in construction or equivalent industry required.
  • Minimum age: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Education: High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Driver License: Valid driver’s license with a driving record that includes no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel and stay overnight during the workweek as required.
  • Drug Test and Physical Screening: Pre-employment drug test and physical required. We conduct random drug tests and post-accident testing. ARI maintains a zero-tolerance drug policy, including marijuana.
  • Physical requirements: Physical stamina with the ability to lift 75 pounds and remain on feet for long hours.

Job Responsibilities

  • Equipment Spotting: Provide clear ground guidance to drill operators during positioning, setup, and movement
  • Hazard Identification: Monitor surroundings for obstacles, personnel, terrain hazards, and overhead or underground risks
  • Communication: Use approved hand signals, radios, and verbal cues to maintain constant contact with operators
  • Jobsite Coordination: Assist with maintaining safe exclusion zones around active drilling equipment
  • Support Operations: Assist drill crews with setup, breakdown, and general site tasks as needed
  • Safety Commitment: Maintains a safety-first mindset and consistently follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to help ensure a safe work environment for self and others
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties to contribute to the company's overall success

Physical Demands

  • Extended Work Hours: Frequently working 12–14-hour workdays.
  • Mobility: Walking and climbing on uneven ground and surfaces.
  • Physical endurance: Ability to work for extended periods in physical conditions.
  • Lifting and carrying: Carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 lbs.
  • Outdoor exposure: This position is performed outdoors and is exposed to weather elements such as snow, rain, and extreme cold/high temperatures.
