Position Title: Safety Engineer
Reports To: Vice President of Service Center Operations
AGC Heat Transfer, Inc. is seeking a dynamic manufacturing safety professional who understands the importance of supporting its most important resource – its people.
a wholly owned subsidiary of Alfa Laval, AB, is the leading OEM of sanitary plate heat exchangers in North America, manufacturing plate heat exchangers specifically designed for sanitary applications. AGC offers complete heat exchangers, services as well as upgrades to plate packs, gaskets and spares that fit multiple brands. In addition, AGC offers Field Leak Testing and inspections of plate heat exchangers that meet the 3-A sanitary standard.
AGC Heat Transfer consists of three manufacturing/service facilities (Bristow, VA, Fairview, OR & Pleasant Prairie, WI) with about 110 employees (70 OR / 20 VA / 20 other locations). Currently, most of the sales are in the US & Canada. The business is profitable and has more than doubled sales since Alfa Laval acquired it in 2007. AGC Heat Transfer has a strong engineering culture with a heavy emphasis on customer service and technical/consultative sales.
Based in Fairview, OR, the Safety Engineer will work with all AGC locations (Fairview, OR, Bristow, VA, Pleasant Prairie, WI, Ft. Worth, TX) and all AGC employees supporting health and safety efforts to ensure safe work environments, work practices and training in compliance with Local, State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Folllows, assists and develops safety policies and safety requirements; Assist in developing and implementing procedures and systems necessary to manage each component of the Safety Program, including Hazard Assessment, Training, Communication, Accident Investigation, and recordkeeping.
- Conducts and coordinates regular and ad hoc training in areas such as health and safety policies, practices and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, use of safety equipment, and safe use of equipment.
- Co-ordinates with facility leaders to ensure corrective actions identified during audits and inspections are appropriately prioritized and completed.
- Works with Alfa Laval Environmental, Health and Safety Team US in order to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations. This includes assisting with managing the disposal of onsite hazardous waste and chemicals, environmental mitigation projects,
- Evaluates Incident Log to identify trends and provides the Summarized Incident Report along with the Incident Log to Alfa Laval Environmental Health and Team US.
- Ensures training resources are available to provide effective safety training. Evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of training when delivered.
- Inspects facilities quarterly at a minimum to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards; Identifies gaps and ensures local facility posts, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
- Works with local facilities to ensure new substances, processes, procedures or equipment that are introduced to the workplace and represent a new hazard are identified.
- Develops safety specific SOPs as guidelines for local adaptation.
- Ensures safety files and records are maintained by all facilities.
- Oversees facility safety inventories, including but not limited to, supplies and equipment – as applicable to specialized equipment.
- Operates as a resource to research and/or co-ordinate process improvement projects related to safety.
- Oversees and manages and is authorized to make safety improvements and safety work order requests in the maintenance management system.
- Assists with online systems such as PEC, PICS, ISNworld, MSDSOnline, etc. to manage safety data, training records and compliance documentation.
- Assists with all engineering transformation projects to ensure that they meet all safety requirements.
- Proactively address unsafe behaviors and conditions, promoting safe practices and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and analyze incident reports to identify trends, develop insights, and recommend preventive measures to mitigate risks.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring timely reporting and compliance with inspections and permits.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university required; Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree preferred.
- ~5 years' experience in an employee Health and Safety role required. Manufacturing experience with multi-state locations and remote personnel preferred.
- ~ Knowledgeable in safety protocols, hazardous materials handling, OSHA regulations, Workers Compensation Law, and other regulatory requirements.
- ~ Proven experience in delivering safety training and related topics.
- ~ Strong administrative and people management skills, including teambuilding and leadership.
- ~ Strong organizational planning, project management, negotiation, communication, collaboration, and leading through influence skills.
- ~ Proficient in administrative tasks and people management, with a focus on team building and leadership.
- ~ Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, and reporting tools.
Able to sit at and operate a computer. Job requires walking 60% of workday, when at a facility. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Steel toe boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs)
Full-time, Exempt (Salaried)

~30-35% travel to other facilities in Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin or onsite work locations as required.
