AGC Automotive Americas (AANA) is a leading supplier of automotive glazing for the OEM and aftermarket industries and is part of the AGC Group, the largest global glass supplier employing more than 50,000 worldwide in approximately 30 countries.
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing suppliers for direct and indirect materials in a Tier II automotive supplier environment. Leveraging engineering expertise, this role ensures suppliers meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements while supporting technical reviews, cost breakdown analysis, and value engineering initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage procurement of raw materials, components, and tooling for automotive programs.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate supplier capabilities and technical feasibility.
- Conduct cost analysis, including detailed breakdowns of material, labor, and process costs.
- Support new product launches by coordinating supplier readiness, APQP documentation, and PPAP submissions.
- Lead negotiations to achieve cost savings while maintaining supplier relationships.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to align supplier quotes with technical requirements.
- Identify cost-reduction and value-engineering opportunities through collaboration with engineering and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO, and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Maintain procurement data, contracts, and supplier performance metrics.
Education/Experience Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree is required, preferably in Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of purchasing experience is required, specifically within the automotive industry (Tier 1 and/or Tier 2).
- Demonstrated experience working in a technical or manufacturing environment is also required.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (such as SAP, AS400, or MAPICS) and advanced skills within the Microsoft Office Suite are required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
- Proven leadership and conflict management skills, with specific experience leading complex supplier negotiations.
- Must have the ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, by air and car, as required.
- Ability to work effectively within a standard office environment.
- Ability to travel 10%-25%, including Canada and Mexico, rarely international.
