We’re seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Project Accountant to support our project management and finance teams. This role focuses on job cost analysis, billing, and financial tracking for multiple ongoing projects. The ideal candidate has experience in project-based accounting and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and process employee timecards, time-and-material reports, and project trackers to ensure accurate cost allocations across projects.
- Track and analyze labor, material, and subcontractor costs to support accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and maintain detailed cost reports, spreadsheets, and billing documentation to track project expenditures and progress billing in real time.
- Manage accounting activities for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring budgets, job costs, and change orders are accurately reflected and communicated to project managers.
- Reconcile project costs by verifying labor hours, material purchases, equipment rentals, and subcontractor invoices against budgets and purchase orders to ensure cost accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare and issue client invoices based on contract terms, milestones, and time-and-material reports, ensuring all billing is accurate, timely, and properly supported.
- Coordinate directly with clients on billing schedules, documentation requirements, and deadlines to maintain smooth invoicing and payment processes.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and operations teams to review cost reports, validate financial data, and ensure alignment with project budgets and contracts.
- Compile and report monthly Work-In-Progress (WIP) data, including revenue recognition, percent completion, and cost-to-complete analysis for management decision-making.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and clients.
- Ability to coordinate with both office and field personnel.
- Proven experience in project invoicing and billing to ensure timely payments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Teams.
Preferred Experience
- Background in project-based accounting (construction, engineering, or related industries).
- Familiarity with Work In Progress (WIP) reporting and tracking.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online.
- Knowledge of progress-based or milestone billing methods.
- Accounting, bookkeeping, or computer science certifications are a plus.
