General Function
A Technical Instructor - West Plains is the lowest rank for technical faculty, requiring effectiveness in teaching; a commitment to advanced studies in the field or specialized training conducted for the industry including designing and teaching classes for college credit, seminars, or training sessions for employees of an outside organization; and a willingness to serve the department, division and/or campus.
The Technical Instructor - West Plains teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective August 1, 2025, the Technical Instructor - West Plains rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains.
Description of Primary Duties
The successful candidate will teach a 15/15 credit hour teaching load based on student demand for agriculture courses. Instruction will be conducted using a variety of delivery methods, including but not limited to on-site, online, blended, and other instructional technologies to support student learning. The successful candidate will also create curriculum for assigned courses, complete student learning assessment reports for each course taught, advise students, and liaise with per course adjunct and dual credit agriculture faculty. The successful candidate is also expected to complete university and community service activities.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Technical Instructor - West Plains are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.
Minimum of the appropriate licensure or certification and four years' experience within the discipline or related discipline. Exceptions must be approved by the department/division, dean of the college, vice chancellor of academic affairs, chancellor, and Board of Governors.
Additional Qualifications
Practical experience in farming, ranching, or other area of agriculture required.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching in college-level courses, workshops, or professional training settings required.
