Overview:

Baldor Food Safety Supervisors work directly within the manufacturing environment and guide food safety activities at the Baldor Bronx Facility. These professionals collaborate with our Operations, Transportation, Human Resources, Facilities, and Sanitation teams, providing food safety direction and leadership to our associates. Under this role's leadership, these employees are responsible for the food safety of Baldor Manufacturing at the Bronx location.

This role ensures that Baldor Specialty Foods personnel work in an environment consistent with regulatory food safety standards and best practices. Food Safety Supervisors oversee the day-to-day execution of programs, plans, policies, and procedures to reduce overall risk for Baldor customers, employees, contractors, and visitors. This includes regulations for the USDA and certifications such as SQF, Organic, and other applicable standards. This role ensures the team adheres to proper processing controls, conducts inspections, and provides education, training, and feedback to Food Safety and applicable departments.

Duties include internal auditing and reviewing documentation, as well as overseeing proper food safety practices during production. This role involves summarizing and updating communications to the Manufacturing Food Safety Manager (and other leaders) on relevant matters, updates, and measures. Additionally, this role is heavily involved in overseeing the implementation of food safety protocols and operating procedures according to the changing environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Master comprehensive knowledge of food safety concepts and principles.
  • Maintain effective relationships with leaders, peers, USDA inspectors, vendors, and others in a diverse environment.
  • This role serves as the point of contact for food safety inspections from USDA, Agricultural and Market, SQF, Kosher, QAI, and Customer food safety inspections.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes such as pre-operational inspections and facility internal audits consistent with USDA requirements.
  • Work independently and communicate effectively with UDSA representatives on site.
  • Lead project steps within a broader project or have accountability for ongoing departmental activities or objectives.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues for food safety understanding and culture development.
  • Address and take corrective action on complex opportunities, escalating where appropriate to leadership.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring both formally and informally to associates.
  • Ensure the implementation of food safety programs and procedures for all groups at the facility, including but not limited to SQF, USDA, NY State.
  • Develop, implement, and execute components of Baldor food safety policies/procedures with the facility including but not limited to foreign material detection and prevention.
  • Demonstrate a strong and supportive presence on the facility manufacturing floor, educating our production staff and leaders on best practices.
  • Determine root causes of food safety occurrences and apply standard food safety principles and practices to determine and implement solutions.
  • Research relevant standards and best practices, then apply them to operations at the facility.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety programs established by Baldor: SQF, GMPs, and USDA standards.
  • Oversee or perform corrective actions as per third-party audits required as needed.
  • Have the authority to stop any process in Golden Meat Co. and warehouses that do not meet the safety CCPs and CPs standards set out in the Baldor (HACCP/USDA, SQF) Food Safety Programs.
  • Assist in any other duties or projects assigned by Food Safety leadership.
  • Develop and mentor Food Safety associates, schedule labor to cover production needs, conduct periodic check-ins with reports on performance and updates to food safety team, where applicable.

Requirements:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety concepts and principles in manufacturing, especially USDA and GFSI.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading others and building food safety best practice cultures.
  • Professional demeanor and respectful conduct to all Baldor personnel, Regulatory, and visitors.
  • Strong understanding and comprehension of food safety and quality systems.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established regulatory required processes like CCP, CP review.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, especially for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as contribute to the overall success of the team.
  • Ability to mentor and develop our growing Food Safety team of associates on site, where applicable.
  • English proficiency; Spanish/French is a plus. Must be comfortable working in a bilingual environment.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; BA/BS highly preferred.
  • Significant experience working in produce manufacturing is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years' relevant experience in food safety with increasing responsibility as a food safety culture leader.
  • Subject matter expertise and relevant certifications preferred (SQF, PCQI, HACCP, ServSafe, lean management).

Technology Skills:
  • Calendar and scheduling software - Microsoft Outlook, Kronos.
  • Electronic mail software - Microsoft Exchange; Microsoft Outlook.
  • Office suite software - Teams, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Google Suite, Microsoft List.
  • Video conferencing software - Microsoft Teams, Zoom.
  • Management programs - Quality Management Systems like SafeFood360 or applicable, WMS tools like HighJump.

Work Environment:
  • AM- Shift Position. Monday to Friday, approximately 9:00am - 5:00pm. Hours may be subject to slight variance.
  • Ability to work on-site in a warehouse and food processing environment.
  • Ability to work in climate controlled, refrigerated processing.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to learn multiple QMS, WMS, and other software systems to offer comprehensive support.
  • Ability to learn and execute corrective action response as well as root cause investigation for any manufacturing nonconformities.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a cold environment.
  • Push/Pull Reach without accommodation.
