What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Postpartum Support Doula (Yardley/Newtown/Langhorne) position at After the Stork?
We are looking for an overnight postpartum doula (10PM-6AM) to provide newborn care in the client's home. We open to PART TIME but FULL TIME would be best. We work with families for an average of 3-4 months but contracts vary between 16 nights to “sleeping through the night/5-6 months.” We are awake through the night helping the new family with infant care and household support. We of course want you to sit and take a break once all chores are completed and baby is sleeping safely in the bassinet, but this is not a job where you "sleep while baby sleeps." We can keep your work consistent so you have a consistent income and we can work around your schedule. After the Stork prides ourselves on excellent customer service and care for parents in a time when they need it most.
Location:
We care for clients in the Greater Philadelphia area! All doulas around the Yardley/Newtown/Langhorne area are encouraged to apply. We will schedule you with the families closest to you as much as possible.
We are looking for someone who possesses the following:
- The desire to help new parents
- Experience with newborns- (babies UNDER 3 months old. You must have experience with a baby as young as 3 weeks old.)
- Experience with and a growing knowledge of breastfeeding (we can refer you to excellent resources)
- The desire to increase knowledge in topics relating to newborn babies (breastfeeding, infant development, healthy sleep habits)
- A mature, calming presence that puts a new mom's mind at ease as she leaves her newborn baby in your arms for the night.
- Excellent personal skills so the new mom is able to comfortably relay information regarding her baby's needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Encouraging and supporting the new parents
- Helping with the baby, dishes, laundry, nursery set up, and other responsibilities new parents have
- Assisting with breastfeeding (if you have not breastfed your own children, a breastfeeding class would be required)
- Travel to/from client homes in your own vehicle (we try to schedule you with clients close to your home, but sometimes driving 30-45 minutes is required.)
- Getting rest during the day (this job works well for moms of school-aged children because they can sleep while their kids are at school/ summer camp)
