What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Media Marketing Intern position at Afrique Noire Magazine?
Job Description
Social Media Intern (Remote)
About Afrique Noire Magazine
Afrique Noire Magazine is an independent publication covering African fashion, culture, and creativity across the continent and its diaspora, built on the belief that these stories deserve coverage as considered and as confident as the work itself. Our social platforms are where most readers first meet the magazine, which is why we hold our feed to the same editorial standard as our pages.
The Role
This internship sits where editorial research meets daily content creation, and it is designed for someone early in their path who wants to learn the craft of running a fashion publication's social presence from the inside. Over four months, the intern will research the designers, collections, and cultural stories shaping African fashion and turn those findings into content for Instagram, TikTok, and the magazine's other platforms. The person in this seat will help plan weekly content calendars, design posts in Canva, write captions to a publishable standard, and bring forward their own ideas about what the feed needs, with real room to grow into that responsibility as the internship progresses. The role is built to teach as much as it asks, and it reports directly to the Brand Manager.
Position Details
Location: Remote
Duration: Four months, with flexible hours
Reports to: Brand Manager
Engagement type: Internship, remote and flexible
Compensation: A stipend paid on successful completion of the internship
What You Will Do
Conduct ongoing editorial research into African fashion, including designers, collections, archives, street style, and the cultural histories behind them, and surface the findings worth building content around.
Help plan and maintain weekly content calendars that give the feed a clear arc, pacing posts across Instagram and TikTok so each week reads as one continuous story.
Design social media posts in Canva that hold the magazine's visual standard, from single graphics to carousels and assets for short-form video.
Write captions and short-form copy in a voice consistent with the magazine's pages, learning to treat a caption with the same care as a printed paragraph.
Follow the trends, sounds, and formats moving through TikTok and Instagram, and translate the ones worth keeping into content that fits who we are.
Build reusable marketing templates the team can adapt for recurring formats, announcements, and campaigns, so strong ideas can be repeated without starting from zero.
Bring your own ideas forward early and often, since this internship is built for someone who notices what the feed needs and is eager to try things.
What We Are Looking For
A genuinely creative eye, demonstrated through work you have already made, whether for a brand, a publication, a community, or a page of your own.
Real curiosity about fashion research, meaning the patience to trace a look, a designer, or a movement back to its source, and a growing instinct for which findings will hold an audience.
Familiarity with how TikTok and Instagram actually work, from formats and sounds to timing and the small choices that decide how far a post travels.
Strong writing in English, with the willingness to develop the magazine's voice in a caption as confidently as in a full paragraph.
Working comfort in Canva, along with enough planning discipline to help build weekly content calendars that hold together as a whole.
A proactive streak, the kind that drafts the idea before the meeting and flags the trend before it peaks.
How to Apply
A 500-word response telling us how you see Afrique Noire and what you would change about our social media, where you can be honest about what is working, what is not, and what you would do differently if this seat were yours.
We want to hear your actual voice in this application, so all of it should be written and made by you, without AI. We read for thinking, not polish, and AI-generated work will not move forward.
