About Us
Afghan Advantage (AA ) Pods Literacy program supports Afghan women through small, neighborhood-based learning groups. Our hybrid model includes online classes (Mon/Thurs) plus in-person orientation, graduation, and community field trips. Classes are co-taught by native English and native Dari/Pashto teachers. 50% of AA students have had zero formal education in their native language.
Pods serves as a literacy bridge—providing the foundation women need to access community resources, continue their education, get a job, and confidently participate in community life. Our four learning modules: Foundations, Springboard, Runway, Wings, prepare students for success in community college ESL Level 0 or I.
Role Overview
We’re seeking a positive, curious native English speaker to co-teach beginner ESL and basic literacy. You’ll use ready-made lesson plans and partner closely with experienced Afghan teachers. A passion for helping people, building relationships, and learning about students’ backgrounds and learning styles is key.
Responsibilities
· Co-teach online beginner ESL/literacy classes
· Teach phonics, sight words, and practical vocabulary
· Support diverse learning styles and educational backgrounds
· Integrate life-skills content
· Build warm, supportive relationships
· Join in-person orientation, graduation, and community outings
· Contribute to a team culture that uses everyone’s strengths
Qualifications
· Native English speaker
· Experience teaching ESL, literacy, reading, basic math to any age is helpful
· Patient, curious, culturally responsive
· Comfortable teaching early readers and pre-literate learners
· Collaborative and flexible
