What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Officer position at Affinity - Search & Consulting?
Affinity is partnering with a mission-driven organization based in downtown Kansas City expanding with a new Business Development Officer.
This will be a high-visibility, relationship-driven role at the center of the client's expansion strategy. You will build and manage a portfolio of 75–100 significant partner accounts — proactively cultivating new relationships, deepening existing ones, and serving as the primary liaison between the organization and the business community.
This role demands a self-starter with genuine sales instincts, high EQ, and a high degree of comfort at community and civic events. A significant portion of your time will be spent out of the office — attending business events, charity functions, fundraisers, and community convenings — representing the organization and building the trusted relationships that make productive work possible.

- Proactively prospect and cultivate new business relationships through outreach, referrals, community events, and strategic networking
- Regularly attend charity events, fundraisers, civic functions, and business association meetings to maintain visibility and deepen community ties
- Develop and execute individualized engagement strategies for key employer accounts, tailored to each organization's workforce needs and business priorities
- Track all account activity, outreach, and relationship milestones in CRM; maintain accurate and current records across the full portfolio
- Prepare regular reports on portfolio health, employer engagement metrics, and pipeline development for leadership
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in account management, business development, employer engagement, or B2B relationship sales
- Proven track record managing a large portfolio of accounts and meeting engagement or growth targets
- Confident, polished communicator — equally effective one-on-one with a CEO and presenting to a room
- Highly self-directed with strong time management skills; comfortable working independently in a field-heavy role
- Active and enthusiastic presence in the community — you genuinely enjoy networking and civic engagement
- Proficiency with CRM tools
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local travel

The right person should expect to spend a significant portion of their time outside the office — attending events, visiting employer sites, and engaging in the community. Evening and occasional weekend availability for events is required. This role is not suited for someone who prefers a desk-bound work environment.
