Certified Nurse Midwife

Affinia HealthCare is a large community health center in St. Louis. We are currently recruiting for a full-time Certified Nurse Midwife. We offer the opportunity to practice full scope, outpatient and inpatient care including birth with our Affinia team at DePaul hospital.

Affinia is primary medical care system which includes FM, IM, Peds, OB/GYN, and UC integrated with Behavioral Health, Dental, Audiology, Podiatry, Chiropractic Care, and Optometry.

There's an opportunity to teach, collaborate, and develop specialized programs like Mind- Body Medicine, Medication Assisted Treatment, Chronic Pain Teams, and Hepatitis C treatment in primary care. All of these programs were developed by our clinicians based on patient need and their clinical interests.

For this position at least 3 years clinical experience with independent birthing is preferred (15 deliveries in the last 12 months).

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform direct patient-centered, trauma-informed care withing scope and in accordance with nurse midwifery competencies and licensing. Self-limited acute and stable, mild chronic conditions in primary care as related to peripartum, GYN, and newborn care up to 30 days. On-call hospital duties in scope and collaborative for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree. Graduate from an accredited program for Advance Practice Nurses in Midwifery.

Experience: Three years' experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife including births (15 deliveries in past 12 months).

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Ability, skills, and knowledge to care for adolescent and adult patients for routine and low risk OB/GYN, pediatric, and adult care including hospital care as above.
2. Strong computer skills with experience in word processing, e-mail software and capability to utilize Affinia Electronic Health Record.
3. Ability to multitask and work cohesively with a team in a fast passed office and hospital environment.
4. Enthusiastic, friendly, discreet, and professional demeanor.

Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required:

1. Current License as a Registered Nurse of the state of MO.
2. Board Certified as a certified nurse midwife
3. CPR/BLS Certification Required.
4. Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate (prior to starting intrapartum training/work)
5. Eligible for NPI and DEA

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Provides patient-centered, trauma informed assessment, counseling, and treatment for primary care patients as outlined above and appropriate for the clinician's scope.
2. Makes appropriate referrals.
3. Provides life support and emergency evaluation/care in response to life threatening situations in the absence of the physician and/or other appropriate health professional.
4. Compiles complete and interval health histories on patients of specialty/scope.
5. Performs complete physical assessment as well as physicals directed towards episodic, interval, or wellness care for patients within scope.
6. Selects, performs and/or interprets the appropriate routine laboratory and diagnostic tests specific for specialty with timely patient follow-up.
7. Counsels/educates patients with cultural humility regarding physical and mental health to include diet, health maintenance, therapy, normal growth and development, chronic disease management, family planning, etc.
8. Attends training and provides Prenatal/Infant Group care as required.
9. Responsible for OB/GYN hospital-based call-coverage as assigned and appropriate for scope under collaborative model.
10. Participates in a collaborative agreement with a physician and maintains that standards in that agreement.
11. Provides trauma-informed, comprehensive care in a collaborative, team-based setting.
12. Maintains appropriate and timely records and documentation.
13. Responds to calls from patients and hospital staff, during nights, weekends, and holidays based on the call schedule in effect.
14. The above functions in accordance with Affinia policies, protocols, and guidelines.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

1. Attends CME sessions as required.
2. Completes Peer Review and Affinia Healthcare mandatory education as required.
3. Represent Affinia Healthcare within the service neighborhood and the larger community.
4. Attends Providers, staff, and agency meetings, as necessary.
5. Educates clinical learners as requested by Affinia Healthcare.

Supervises: None (Clinically mentors and gives feedback to medical assistant, nurse in clinical area)
