What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Lead Counselor (Summer) position at Aerospace Museum of California?

Camp Leaders are responsible for providing safe, friendly supervision directly to all children in their care, and indirectly to all children in the camp at any one time. You will contribute to the overall mission of the Aerospace Museum of California by serving as an outgoing, active, and knowledgeable representative when guiding our summer camp children and communicating with their caregivers.
Skills & Talents:
- Experience working with children in informal learning or recreational environments
- Flexible, dynamic, and active in learning, while being patient, empathetic, and caring with children of various learning abilities
- Understanding of the role of play and inquiry in learning
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Prompt, time-aware and able to supervise and organize groups of up to 25 children with assistance
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work independently and with a co leader to lead groups of up to 25 children in activities through a complete week of learning programs
- Stimulating children’s curiosity and questioning, problem-solving and creativity, and active participation of all knowledge levels
- Learn the objectives of assigned camps and follow daily program schedules
- Ability to adjust activities within program schedules to adapt to the immediate circumstances, e.g. weather, physical location, coordination with other Camp Leaders
- Supervising and collaborating with volunteers who support the camp groups
- Available to work Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, from early June through mid August. Continued shifts may be available upon joining our Visitor Experience team.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous summer camp or recreation program experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- May require standing and walking 75% of the time, lifting up to a maximum of 25 pounds, and other physical actions that include stooping, kneeling, bending, standing.
- Work involves outdoor activities in addition to programs within the facility
- Physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
This position is at-will, hourly, and temporary full-time. Salary range: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on experience. No benefits.
