Aeronet is seeking a strategic VP, Risk Management to lead the development and execution of a comprehensive risk management framework across the organization.
This executive will oversee enterprise risk management, compliance, claims, contracts, vendor risk, and operational risk across Aeronet’s logistics and freight forwarding operations. The role will partner closely with executive leadership to embed risk intelligence into business decision-making and ensure the organization maintains strong governance while supporting operational growth.
The ideal candidate will bring strong legal and contractual risk awareness, with the ability to interpret regulatory and contractual exposure while partnering effectively with outside counsel when necessary.
This position requires a forward-thinking leader capable of elevating risk management beyond compliance to become a strategic function that strengthens operational resilience, protects company assets, and enables sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Risk Management
- Develop and lead Aeronet’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, legal, financial, and reputational risks across the organization
- Expand oversight across all areas of business risk
- Implement continuous monitoring processes and risk reporting frameworks
- Provide executive-level reporting and risk insights to the CEO and senior leadership team
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Integrate Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) processes across the organization
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, contractual, and operational compliance standards
- Establish policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risk exposure
- Promote a strong company-wide risk and compliance culture
Contracts, Legal & Vendor Risk
- Oversee risk governance for:
- vendor agreements
- customer contracts
- service agreements
- property leases
- Partner with external legal counsel and internal leadership on legal risk mitigation
- Establish and maintain vendor risk management processes
Claims & Insurance Oversight
- Oversee insurance programs and claims management
- Evaluate and mitigate liability exposures within freight forwarding and logistics operations
- Partner with brokers and insurance carriers to manage operational risk
Training & Learning Development
- Develop and implement training programs focused on:
- compliance
- operational risk
- ethics and regulatory awareness
- Promote a culture of accountability and proactive risk management throughout the organization
Logistics Industry Risk Strategy
Provide oversight and guidance on risks specific to the logistics and freight forwarding industry, including:
- cargo liability exposure
- warehouse and operational risk
- international shipping and customs compliance
- vendor and carrier risk management
- contractual obligations with customers and partners
Leadership
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Risk & Compliance function
- Manage and develop the Director, Claims and Compliance
- Partner with leaders across operations, HR, finance, and legal to ensure integrated risk management practices
- Serve as the executive responsible for Aeronet’s enterprise risk strategy
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 10 years of relevant risk management experience
- Minimum 7 years of leadership or managerial experience
- Experience developing and implementing enterprise risk management programs
- Willingness to travel approximately 20%
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, or supply chain industries strongly preferred
- Strong background in contract review, vendor agreements, lease negotiations, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate legal and operational risk across complex business operations
- Experience working closely with outside counsel and internal stakeholders on legal and contractual matters
- Familiarity with risk frameworks and regulatory environments (e.g., COSO ERM, compliance frameworks, insurance risk management)
- Proven ability to present risk insights and strategy to executive leadership
- Legal training or experience strongly preferred (e.g., compliance leadership, legal operations, or contract governance experience), though a Juris Doctor (JD) is not required
Pay: $82,394.26 - $99,227.49 per year
