Job Description: Biotechnologist Associate
Location: Portsmouth, NH, United States
Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM, rotating days, every other weekend
Position Overview:
The Biotechnologist Associate will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing of therapeutic proteins (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) conditions. This role involves operating and monitoring manufacturing equipment and processes, performing basic laboratory testing, and maintaining cleanroom standards. Candidates will be trained in aseptic techniques and are expected to work closely under supervision to develop their skills and compliance knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and monitor production equipment and processes, including Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Steam-in-Place (SIP).
Follow process recipes and written procedures (SOPs) strictly in adherence with cGMP and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Accurately document production activities in both written and electronic formats.
Perform basic laboratory tasks such as monitoring pH, conductivity, and sample testing.
Conduct material movements including the transfer of raw materials and chemicals across production areas.
Maintain facility and equipment cleanliness through routine sanitization practices supporting 6S/lean manufacturing principles.
Consistently gown and work in a controlled cleanroom environment demonstrating aseptic technique.
Participate in administrative duties including shift exchanges, meetings, and email communications.
Assist in project participation and other duties as assigned.
Complete qualification and maintain training for assigned tasks according to the individual training plan.
Required Background & Skills
Candidates with experience or interest in manufacturing environments or scientific disciplines are encouraged to apply. Successful backgrounds in this role have included:
Food service or culinary roles (ability to follow recipes and procedures)
Pharmacy technician experience
Mechanical aptitude or robotics knowledge
Strong computer skills with ability to work with automated manufacturing systems
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Technical Support professionals
Roles requiring adherence to SOPs, industry regulations, and guidelines (e.g., security, nursing, Sig Sauer employees)
Qualifications
Scientific degree or relevant manufacturing experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Ability to work night shifts and rotating schedules including every other weekend.
Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and team collaboration.
Willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with gowning protocols.
Physical & Work Environment
Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks related to material handling and sanitization.
Work is performed in a cGMP compliant manufacturing facility with strict regulatory requirements.
