Position Summary
The QC Microbiology Supervisor (Working Supervisor) is a hands-on leadership role responsible for both performing microbiological testing and supervising daily laboratory operations. This position ensures timely, accurate testing while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will lead by example, actively participating in laboratory work while guiding and developing team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine microbiological testing, including environmental monitoring, water testing, bioburden, endotoxin, and sterility testing
- Supervise day-to-day activities of the QC Microbiology laboratory and provide direct support to staff
- Review, verify, and approve laboratory data, test results, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, USP, and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to laboratory personnel
- Lead investigations for deviations, OOS (Out-of-Specification), and OOT (Out-of-Trend) results, including root cause analysis and CAPA implementation
- Support internal audits, client audits, and regulatory inspections
- Maintain laboratory equipment, perform basic troubleshooting, and ensure calibration/qualification status
- Assist in method validation, method transfer, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Manufacturing, and R&D to resolve quality and process issues
- Ensure proper documentation practices and data integrity standards are maintained
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related scientific field
- 7 years of hands-on microbiology laboratory experience in a GMP-regulated environment
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred, but strong senior-level individual contributors will be considered
- Demonstrated expertise in microbiological techniques and aseptic practices
- Working knowledge of regulatory expectations (FDA, USP, EMA, etc.)
Preferred Skills
- Experience balancing laboratory testing with team leadership responsibilities
- Strong troubleshooting and investigative skills
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring programs and cleanroom operations
- Experience with LIMS or other laboratory systems
- Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
Salary : $95,000 - $105,000
