Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Morristown, TN or Franklin Park, IL
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours
Compensation: $52–$60/hour
Assignment: Six-month contract with potential for permanent hire
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to configure control systems for customer-specific industrial heating equipment. You will work with established product designs, adapting the electrical controls to meet each order’s requirements. This is a hands-on role involving control panels, schematics, component selection, code compliance, and collaboration with the manufacturing team.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical control systems and control panel layouts for customer orders.
- Create and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O drawings, and bills of materials.
- Select sensors, switches, valves, motors, and other electrical components based on customer requirements and applicable codes.
- Review designs for compliance with NEC, NFPA, UL, and CSA requirements.
- Work with shop personnel to confirm that panels are built as designed and that components are accessible and safely located.
- Support customers and service technicians with electrical and controls troubleshooting, remotely and occasionally on-site.
- Document control system operation for technical manuals and customer instructions.
- Write or modify PLC programs as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Five or more years of electrical engineering or electrical design experience.
- Experience designing control panels and producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and I/O drawings.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical CAD software.
- Experience selecting electrical components and applying UL, NEC, and NFPA requirements.
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Preferred: PLC programming experience and familiarity with combustion systems, burners, boilers, industrial heating equipment, or ASME pressure vessel requirements.
