Sheet Metal Turret Press Machinist

If you’re the kind of machinist who loves dialing in a turret press and nailing spec every time, read on.

• Set punches and dies in the turret; align, gauge, and clamp workpieces on the table.
• Index to the correct tool station; set forward/lateral indicators to required dimensions; actuate the punch via foot pedal for each setup.
• Use the center punch to touch off and scribe layout lines to verify positions before running.
• Read blueprints and operation sheets; determine sequences and compute punch charts from drawings.
• Punch holes in nonmetallic materials when specified.
• Measure with dial/vernier calipers, micrometers, squares, and height gauges per AQL and work instructions; report dimensional or setup issues to a supervisor or setup specialist.
• Record good/scrap counts accurately; complete production paperwork; enter required data in the company database and the Traverse Manufacturing System.
• Maintain clean, organized tools and equipment; immediately report malfunctions; keep work areas safe and orderly.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience and/or training operating turret punch presses.
• Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagrammed instructions; recognize dimensional/setup problems and seek help when needed.
• Shop math fluency with fractions, decimals, whole numbers, and units of measure.
• Blueprint and operation-sheet literacy to determine setups and process steps.
• Proficiency setting up/operating a Turret Punch Press and maintaining data in the Traverse Manufacturing System.
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
