Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Capital Projects Manager to serve as the sole project manager at the plant level, responsible for leading all capital projects from cradle to grave. This role plays a critical part in supporting the plant’s strategic direction through engineered solutions, capital planning, and execution. Projects will vary widely in scope and scale and require strong technical, organizational, and design capabilities.The ideal candidate brings 5 years of capital project management experience, strong CAD/design skills for plant layouts, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating contractors, budgets, and timelines. Experience in aluminum or metals manufacturing is a plus but not required.Key ResponsibilitiesLead all plant capital projects from concept through completion, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and closeout.Partner with plant leadership as part of the local management team to support the strategic plan through engineered capital solutions.Define and manage capital projects aligned with the plant’s business plan and long-term master plan.Develop capital request documentation and presentations for approval, up to the President level.Perform engineering assignments related to projects, including manufacturing area layouts, machine layouts, and equipment design using CAD software.Specify, purchase, and track materials and services required for project execution.Manage outside contractors and vendors, ensuring safety, quality, schedule adherence, and cost control.Evaluate return on investment (ROI) and identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and cost reduction.Track, record, and report project costs, schedules, risks, and progress to plant and corporate leadership.Research and develop capital expense proposals, including project scope, objectives, cost estimates, and schedules.Design equipment and support devices such as guards or auxiliary components as required.Write reports documenting project activity, prepare budget and schedule updates, and formally close out completed projects.Ensure projects meet safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory standards.Promote and support safety, quality, and housekeeping standards, including adherence to HSE and 5S requirements.Supervise and coordinate the work of project engineers, project technicians, and contractors as needed.Qualifications5 years of experience managing capital projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.Proven ability to manage multiple capital projects simultaneously of varying size and complexity.Strong CAD/design experience with the ability to create and modify plant and equipment layouts (AutoCAD or similar).Demonstrated experience working with contractors, vendors, and engineering partners.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Ability to work independently as the primary project manager at the plant.Willingness to travel approximately 25%.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related discipline).Candidates without a degree may be considered if they possess strong capital project experience and design capability.Experience in aluminum, metals, or heavy manufacturing environments.Strong understanding of ROI analysis, capital justification, and growth-driven project planning.Knowledge of compliance, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance related to equipment installation.Experience with risk management and contractor oversight.CompetenciesCollaboration & Cross-Functional LeadershipTechnical & Analytical ThinkingDecision Making & Problem SolvingProject Planning & Time ManagementWritten & Oral CommunicationResults-Driven ExecutionEthical ConductWork EnvironmentThis role operates in both office and manufacturing environments and requires regular time on the production floor.
