Direct Support Professional - West Monroe, NY

Advocates, Inc. is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to work with a friendly and social young man with a disability. He is looking for someone to assist him with increasing his communication and independent living skills, along with staying involved in recreational activities. 

The ideal candidate is friendly, caring, reliable, engaging, and enjoys helping others. Related experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.  

Reliable transportation is required. Background check, fingerprinting, and DMV record check with be conducted prior to hiring. Candidates must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day’s times, and service documentation. Internet access and a valid email address are required. 

Hours and days of work available 

Up to 15 hours per week 

Mondays / Wednesdays: 5pm-8pm 

Fridays: 9am-5pm 

Pay rate: $25/hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16/hour.  

Location: West Monroe, NY

• Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.
• Desired Skills and Abilities: previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred. Knowledge of disability related issues preferred.
• Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
