Advocates is seeking a Direct Support Professional (Mentor/DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a fun, outgoing, and independent gentleman with a developmental disability. He and his family are looking for a Mentor to assist him with working on his goals both at home and in his community.
Goals include:
- Health and fitness/exercise - using the gym, swimming, fitness classes, walking, engaging in any exercise program or class especially running club with the YMCA
- Communication and social skills - making community connections and friendships and meeting peers in the community while learning how to be socially appropriate and reciprocate in conversations
- Independent living skills - grocery shopping, cooking, personal care tasks, ensuring a safe and clean environment
- Safety in his environment and community - learning how to safely navigate his home surroundings and in the community due to limitations and general unawareness
Seeking a DSP who is reliable, enthusiastic, creative, and active. If you are athletic or are into the gym, this is a plus! Related experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred but not required. Please respond with resume or summary of experience.
Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address.
Hours and days of work
Tuesday and Friday (9 AM - 3 PM). Start and end times can be flexible.
Pay rate: $20-$23.99 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour.
Location: Bridgeport, NY

- Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.

- Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
