Direct Support Professional - Canastota

Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a friendly, humorous gentleman with a developmental disability. He is looking for a Mentor to assist him with working on goals and community-based activities within his community.  
 
Goals include: 
• Health and fitness - walking, using the gym, playing sports, and encouraging healthy food, beverage, and lifestyle choices. 
• Social skills - forming community connections and friendships, further developing social skills. 
• Pursuing hobbies and interests, community activities, and local events. 
 
Seeking a DSP who is reliable, enthusiastic, and active. Related experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred but not required. Please respond with resume or summary of experience. 

Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address.
 
Hours and days of work

This is a part-time position on Thursdays and/or Friday mornings for 3.5-hour shifts (ex- 9:30am-1pm, 10am-1:30pm, etc.). Looking for a total of 7 hours a week (two 3.5-hour days).

Pay rate: $20.30 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16.00 per hour.

Location: Canastota, NY

• Education & Experience: GED or High School Diploma preferred. Applicable job experience preferred.
• Desired Skills and Abilities: previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred. Knowledge of disability related issues preferred.
• Other: The individual does not have the authority to set the staff salary in this model. The Mentor is paid at the provider’s rate for the service based on an assessment of the specific support needs of the individual in the areas of behavioral support, communication support, and physical support needs.
