Mentor Role

The Youth Intervention Services program helps to empower youth and their families to make positive life decisions that enable them to maximize their potential and create a positive future that is not court involved. The mentoring program uses gender specific mentors who commit to support, guide, and mentor a young person by becoming part of their life on a weekly basis and helping the youth develop and reach positive academic, career, social and personal goals that do and reduce or prevent juvenile court involvement. Other goals are to help reduce truancy, help to develop positive peer relationships, create educational opportunities for both the youth and their parents, develop youth assets through promoting community service and involvement in positive community-based activities, and providing intervention methods designed at keeping the family unit safely intact.

Group Facilitator Role

The 3E program uses gender specific group facilitators who commit to support, guide, and mentor a young person by becoming part of their life on a weekly basis and helping the youth develop and reach positive academic, career, social and personal goals that reduce or prevent teen pregnancy and promote empowerment and mutual respect for both males and females. Other goals are to help reduce truancy, help to develop positive peer relationships, create educational opportunities, develop youth assets through promoting community service and involvement in positive community-based activities, and providing group activities that facilitate the goals needed to promote healthy, pregnancy free teen years.

Group Facilitator / Mentor Duties

  • Provide a young person with ongoing, weekly, group relationship
  • Provide a young person with ongoing, weekly, one-to-one relationship
  • Serve as a positive role model and support to Youth and families
  • Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together
  • Work in relationship with local schools and school liaisons.
  • Strive for mutual respect
  • Build self-esteem, social skills and motivation
  • Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them
  • Meet weekly in 3E groups with the youth in a group setting, with individual mentoring time as needed
  • Meet weekly with the mentee (for individual one-on-one, once a week, or in a group setting for group facilitators, with individual mentoring time as needed)
  • Communicate with your group members, mentees and family members in between face to face visits
  • Work as an advocate with local schools, community social agencies, juvenile probation, court, police and prosecutor’s office and mental health agencies
  • Attend trainings as offered by the agency
  • Attend client individual or group events, youth sport or recognition events as available
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be interested in working with young people
  • Adhere to all program policies, procedures and follow the Social Workers and Counselors code of ethics
  • Be dependable and consistent in meeting with client’s and agency required meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with program team lead, director, staff, submit activity reports and Monthly reports (by the 1 of the month), and take constructive feedback regarding group and mentoring, activities and relationship with mentee and families
  • Have access to an automobile, auto insurance, and a good driving record
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Not use illicit drugs
  • Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner
  • Not be currently in treatment for substance abuse or recently released
  • Not smoke or use tobacco products during activities or promote their use
  • Use technology appropriately, and not be distracted from youth by personal technology.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
