A revolutionary, industry-defining fintech company is seeking its first dedicated technical accounting leader to build and institutionalize the company’s accounting operation. This is a high-impact role responsible for leading complex accounting research, implementing new standards, drafting the firm’s first technical policies and financial statement disclosures, and serving as the internal subject matter expert across multiple regulated entities. This technical accounting leader will ply an integral role in the IPO readiness efforts, partnering with the executive leadership team and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure a public-ready environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end research, interpretation, and implementation of complex U.S. GAAP standards and emerging accounting pronouncements, ensuring timely adoption and alignment with evolving regulatory requirements
- Serve as the in-house subject matter expert on key technical areas including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 505 (equity and capital transactions), and ASC 842 (lease accounting), advising leadership on implications and strategic decisions
- Author comprehensive technical accounting memoranda, including position papers and whitepapers, to support accounting conclusions and facilitate external audit review
- Architect and implement the company’s first fully GAAP-compliant accounting policies and procedures, establishing a scalable foundation for future growth and regulatory compliance
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, legal, product, and finance teams to operationalize new accounting policies, assess downstream impacts, and drive process alignment across the organization
- Lead the preparation of the company’s inaugural financial statements, including full footnote disclosures, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to U.S. GAAP and SEC expectations
- Act as primary liaison with external auditors and accounting advisors, managing technical discussions, resolving complex issues, and driving efficient audit execution
- Design and enhance internal control frameworks (SOX-ready), establishing robust compliance infrastructure and mitigating financial reporting risk
Ideal Background
- 6–12 years of accounting experience, including public accounting, accounting advisory and/or technical accounting roles.
- Strong technical GAAP expertise with experience applying complex ASC guidance.
- Knowledge of public company accounting requirements, ideally with a background guiding companies through IPO readiness efforts
- Experience drafting accounting memos and financial statement disclosures.
- Exposure to regulated financial institutions preferred.
- CPA, Chartered Accountancy or comparable designation strongly preferred
- Ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
Compensation
- Total compensation range: $160,000 – $230,000 base salary plus equity participation.
