Head of North American Tax - Mostly Remote Global Advertising / Strategic Marketing Firm - $175k-200k B
A global organization providing analytics, marketing, education, and other professional services is seeking a Head of North American Tax to lead its tax function across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Reporting directly to the Global Head of Tax, this individual will oversee all North American tax matters for the company’s largest and most strategically important region. North America represents a majority of the organization’s global revenue and workforce, making this a highly visible leadership role with significant exposure to senior finance and business leaders.
The position is primarily remote, with occasional in-person collaboration at the company’s Manhattan office.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the North American tax function across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
- Develop and oversee the regional tax strategy in alignment with the organization’s broader business objectives and global tax framework.
- Ensure timely and accurate federal, state, provincial, local, and cross-border tax compliance, filings, payments, and disclosures.
- Oversee the North American tax provision under U.S. GAAP and IFRS, including effective tax rate analysis and support for consolidated reporting.
- Partner with the Global Head of Tax on worldwide tax planning, reporting, governance, and risk management.
- Advise senior leadership on the tax implications of acquisitions, restructurings, financing activities, investments, and other strategic initiatives.
- Support cross-border tax planning, transfer pricing, permanent establishment matters, repatriation strategies, and U.S. inbound and outbound structuring.
- Develop and maintain transfer-pricing policies, documentation, benchmarking studies, and annual compliance processes.
- Oversee indirect and withholding tax matters, including sales and use tax, GST/HST, and related registrations.
- Manage tax audits, examinations, controversy matters, and relationships with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Establish and maintain effective tax policies, controls, processes, and governance across North American entities.
- Identify opportunities to improve tax technology, data integrity, automation, reporting, and ERP-enabled processes.
- Collaborate closely with finance, accounting, legal, treasury, payroll, and regional business leaders.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- CPA or another relevant professional qualification preferred.
- 10 years of progressive tax experience within a multinational or complex corporate environment.
- Strong experience leading or overseeing North American tax matters.
- Broad knowledge of corporate income tax, tax provisions, compliance, and financial reporting.
- Experience with U.S. federal and state taxation, along with exposure to Canadian and Mexican tax matters.
- Strong understanding of international tax, transfer pricing, and cross-border transactions.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, restructurings, financing activities, or other strategic transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Experience improving tax processes, systems, controls, or reporting capabilities.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple functions, jurisdictions, and levels of leadership.
Base Salary: $175k-200k plus bonus
