Surgical Technician (AHMC), Full Time, Day Shift

Job Summary:

Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room. Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases. Performs a variety of technical skills, including the maintenance of supplies. This position is represented by UFCW.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

• High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
• Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
• Scrub technician experience: Preferred
• Operating room experience and/or training course: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

• Surgery Technician certification: Preferred
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Preferred

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST): Required

Essential Functions:

• Prepares for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case. Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures. Reviews equipment inventory for specialty as assigned. Sets up operative instrumentation/sterile field for expedient retrieval/utilization.
• Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care. Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary. Performs housekeeping duties as requested.
• Transports patients according to unit schedules and priorities. Provides clerical duties.
• Completes instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with the Registered Nurse (RN) according to established standards.
• Sets up/maintains neat and orderly sterile field demonstrating careful attention to aseptic technique. Labels solutions according to established standards.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Pay Range: The estimated base pay for this position is $30.79 to $46.15. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
