Job Summary:
Leads advocacy efforts in central and northern California ensuring that healthcare policies support our mission of delivering faith-based, whole-person care. Advances public policy priorities, engages with government officials, and advances legislative and regulatory priorities that impact Adventist Health’s hospitals and healthcare facilities across the central and northern California networks. Collaborates closely with executive leadership, including the CEO and senior leadership team, to align government engagement, communications, and reputation strategy with organizational priorities, growth objectives, and mission.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, healthcare administration, law, or a related field: Required
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Seven years' of experience in government affairs, legislative advocacy, or public policy, preferably in California healthcare: Required
- Experience working with state and local legislators, and healthcare advocacy groups: Required
- Five years' leadership experience: Required
Essential Functions:
- Develops and executes government affairs strategies that align with Adventist Health’s mission and operational priorities. Builds and maintains relationships with central and northern California officials, state legislators, federal legislators, and key healthcare policymakers.
- Advocates for policies that address the workforce crisis, protect the safety-net, ensure access and sustainability and improve community and health equity. Represents Adventist Health in government hearings, advisory committees, and industry coalitions such as the California Hospital Association (CHA), and Hospital Council of Northern California.
- Prepares executive leaders for high-stakes external engagements, including legislative meetings, media interactions, public forums, and community events. Develops and implements proactive reputation management strategies to protect and strengthen the organization’s brand, credibility, and public trust.
- Identifies emerging risks that could impact organizational reputation, including legislative developments, media coverage, operational changes, and stakeholder concerns. Develops key messages, talking points, briefing materials, and strategic communications that clearly articulate organizational priorities and mission.
- Responds to Adventist Health legislative alerts, which may include a request to submit letters, place calls to legislative offices, arrange visits, and/or meet with legislators. Participates actively in monthly government affairs calls, providing local updates and engaging in meaningful dialogue to advance public policy priorities. Builds a local advocacy program by building internal resources, leveraging community boards, community leaders and representatives from community-based organizations, and participating in local and community organizations.
