Principle Duties and Responsibilities
* Setting up and operating various machines used for milling and turning, and using tools required for operating manual machines.
* Reading and interpreting work orders to select proper work center and identify required tooling to perform the operation.
* Obtaining and installing proper tooling, such as jaws, chucks, fixtures, and cutting tools.
* Using various gauges and precision instruments (i.e., calipers, IDOD micrometers, indicators, and special gaging equipment, etc.) to ensure quality is maintained and tolerances are met.
* Cleaning and removing burrs after the operation is completed.
* Training other employees on a variety of machine tools and operations.
* Returning tooling and reporting any difficulties with tooling or material.
* Maintain and practice safe machining tool usage such as lathe guards, chuck guards and PPE. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
* Add, subtract, multiply, divide and work with fractional measurements and decimals.
* Set up, adjust, and operate all machine tools in your area of responsibility to produce various parts within specifications from blueprints. * Read and understand basic manufacturing mechanical blueprints, and use good basic math skills in addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
* Hold very close tolerances and surface finish requirements.
* Exceptional teamwork skills and strong communication abilities.
* Working knowledge or ability to learn to use a micrometer, depth micrometer, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
* A demonstrated history of good attendance and a safe work record.
Education and Experience:
* A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
* 8 years of manual machining working with manual engine lathes, VTLs, HBMs and surface grinders
* The ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and other documents.
* Proficiency with measuring equipment, such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
* Experience working with variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, hard coated components, and composite materials.
* Horizontal mill experience preferred. * Lean understanding and practices preferred.
