Quality Engineer – Manufacturing
Compensation: $85,000–$105,000 base salary
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer plays a critical role in supporting company growth by generating inspection documentation, managing QA lab activities, engaging with suppliers and customers, and reviewing materials. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, this role functions as a key member of the Quality Assurance team, ensuring products consistently meet customer requirements.
Core Function
Support our client's Operations as part of the Quality Assurance team to ensure all products meet or exceed customer expectations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Quality Inspection & Documentation
- Generate First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and PPAPs for customers.
- Create inspection plans for incoming, in‑process, and final inspections.
- Program and operate Micro‑Vu vision systems for final inspections in the metal matrix composite department.
- Program Keyence IM systems for incoming and final inspections.
QA/QC Lab Workflow
- Set daily priorities for QA/QC lab inspectors to ensure accurate and efficient measurement methods.
- Oversee final inspections to meet shipping deadlines and ensure product quality.
- Train HPB visual inspectors; develop work instructions and visual aids.
- Manage and maintain inspection software; implement new solutions to streamline data storage and inspection processes.
Supplier & Customer Engagement
- Participate in recurring meetings with key customers to address quality concerns and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with procurement to resolve supplier and vendor quality issues.
Material Review & Quality Control
- Coordinate and lead MRB (Material Review Board) meetings.
- Host and manage RMAs (Return Material Authorizations) and ensure timely customer responses.
- Perform root cause analysis; participate in Ishikawa, 8D, and FMEA processes.
- Determine inspection sampling sizes (AQL) and use statistical tools (JMP, Excel, 1Factory) for data visualization.
- Support product testing (salt atmosphere, CTE, solder dip tests, etc.).
- Move materials in the M2M ERP system (scrap transactions, MRB movement).
Continuous Improvement & New Product Development
- Onboard new automated inspection equipment on the HPB manufacturing floor.
- Use SolidWorks to design and 3D‑print QA fixtures.
- Collaborate with NPD teams to develop inspection techniques and programs for R&D and new product development.
- Work with cross‑functional engineering teams to improve manufacturing yield.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in internal, external, and third‑party audits.
- Review customer quality flow‑downs and participate in sales order meetings.
- Attend stand‑up meetings to report on QA‑related topics.
- Apply GD&T knowledge to review engineering drawings and ensure accurate quality assessments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of Quality Assurance or Quality Engineering experience in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, M2M, QT9, or similar.
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is a plus.
- ASQ CQA or CQE certification is a plus.
- Understanding of AS9100 requirements is a plus.
Minimum Requirements
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
- Proficiency with fundamental quality tools (5‑Why, Ishikawa, 8D).
- Experience compiling, formatting, analyzing, and presenting data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work safely and follow all established health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- U.S. citizenship required.
