General Machinist - Precision Manufacturing
Location: Sturbridge, MA
Pay: $35.00/hour
We are seeking an experienced General Machinist to join a high-precision scientific manufacturing environment in Sturbridge, MA. This role supports R&D model shop operations and production manufacturing, producing tight-tolerance components for spectrometry, medical devices, aerospace, and advanced research applications. Ideal candidates have strong manual and CNC machining experience and thrive in a regulated, quality-driven setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine high-precision components from stainless steel, aluminum, plastics, and specialty materials
- Independently set up, operate, and troubleshoot manual and CNC machining equipment
- Support prototype machining, R&D development, and full-scale production manufacturing
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications
- Program, edit, and optimize CNC machining programs as required
- Design, build, and modify tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions
- Perform preventative maintenance and maintain organized machine shop operations
- Monitor tooling and raw material inventory; communicate supply needs proactively
- Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to improve manufacturability and process efficiency
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in precision machining or model shop environments
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience machining stainless steel, aluminum, plastics, and other industrial materials
- Hands-on experience with Hardinge Manual Lathe, Bridgeport Knee Mill, and Prototrak RMX Bed Mill
- Proficiency in blueprint reading, dimensional inspection, and tight-tolerance machining
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (medical device, aerospace, or similar preferred)
