POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners during patient visits. This role ensures a smooth clinic flow, assists with procedures, schedules tests and surgeries, and delivers exceptional patient care while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare patients for clinical examinations by taking vital signs, patient history of present illness (HPI), and assisting with bandage or dressing removal.
- Escort patients to exam rooms or imaging areas and ensure all necessary reports, imaging, and records are available for provider review.
- Assist providers with procedures such as suture or staple removal, injections, and brace/cast application or removal.
- Document patient encounters in charts and complete related paperwork, including therapy orders, work releases, disability/FMLA forms, and worker compensation forms.
- Initiate the billing process for clinic visit and surgeries.
- Schedule and order imaging, diagnostic tests and surgeries; obtain pre-authorizations as required.
- Educate patients on wound care, brace use, and follow-up instructions.
- Answer patient questions via phone or in person in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain a clean and stocked exam room, handle biohazardous waste in compliance with safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervising physician.
