Position Summary:

Process Technician performs setup, startup, and troubleshooting activities for injection molding operations. This role supports continuous production, ensuring processes remain within validated parameters, and collaborates with Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to resolve technical and quality-related issues. The Process Technician also assists in mentoring less experienced technicians, contributes to process optimization, and ensures compliance with ISO 13485, ISO 9001, cGMP, and internal QMS standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct startups for all production runs using validated parameters, including post-maintenance Tooling Work Order (TWO) runs, verifying that tooling repairs or adjustments have corrected the issue and that the process is stable before release to production.
  • Perform in-process troubleshooting to resolve molding, machine, and auxiliary equipment issues promptly and effectively.
  • Perform setups independently as required to support production schedules or coverage needs, including both routine and moderately complex setups, depending on production needs.
  • Assist Process Technician I employees during setups as needed by providing hands-on guidance, troubleshooting support, and verification to ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to address process or product issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Execute proper shutdowns including purging, material changes, and documentation handoff.
  • Perform and document work-cell verifications to confirm readiness, cleanliness, and compliance with production standards.
  • Maintain accurate GDP-compliant process logs, maintenance requests, and PQ (Process Qualification) feedback.
  • Ensure all process changes and documentation updates comply with ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and cGMP standards.
  • Support QMS initiatives such as nonconformance reporting, change control, and participation in corrective- and preventive-action (CAPA) activities.
  • Initiate and track to closure Tooling Work Orders (TWOs) as needed to support mold maintenance, tooling repair, and process optimization.
  • Provide feedback on tooling, process, and equipment improvements that enhance quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Assist in mentoring and training Process Technician I employees in setup, troubleshooting, and documentation practices.
  • Support validation, engineering trials, and new-tooling qualifications when assigned.
  • Participate in small-scale continuous-improvement projects within the production area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of injection-molding equipment, auxiliary systems, and process-control instrumentation.
  • Understanding of ISO 13485, ISO 9001, cGMP, and QMS documentation requirements.
  • Proficient in root-cause troubleshooting, process adjustments, and corrective-action implementation.
  • Familiarity with scientific-molding principles and basic data-driven problem-solving.
  • Ability to interpret process documentation, setup sheets, and work instructions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to documentation accuracy and process discipline.
  • Commitment to safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or degree in plastics, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of injection-molding setup and processing experience required; medical-device or other regulated manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Completion of Paulson Molding II or III strongly preferred.
  • AIM Molding I certification strongly preffered.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and lifting of objects up to 50 lbs independently.
  • Ability to perform transport, installation, and alignment of molds, tooling, and auxiliary equipment that may weigh several hundred to several thousand pounds using forklifts, overhead hoists/cranes, and other approved lifting devices.
  • Safely operate a forklift, pallet jacks, hoists/overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment (training and certification performed onsite).
  • Requires manual dexterity for working with small parts, tools, and precision instruments.
  • Ability to work in both cleanroom and general production environments while wearing required PPE and following contamination control and safety procedures.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to inspect molded parts and read gauges, indicators, and digital displays.
  • Ability to work in hot, noisy, or confined areas during machine setup or maintenance activities.
