Associate, Quality Control (Microbiology & Environmental Monitoring)
Location: Holly Springs, NC (Onsite)
Schedule: Split-week schedule; includes weekends and public holidays as required
Employment Type: Contingent Worker (Contract, W2)
Compensation: $29–$34 per hour (based on experience)
Contract Length: 12 months (possible extension)
Summary of the Role
Support the Microbiology and Environmental Monitoring group at a big biopharma leader’s GMP manufacturing facility. This hands-on role performs routine environmental and clean utilities sampling, working approximately 50% in the laboratory and 50% on the manufacturing floor. You will play a critical role in maintaining a compliant, controlled manufacturing environment while supporting startup and routine QC activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine environmental monitoring sampling in classified manufacturing areas
- Support environmental monitoring performance qualifications
- Collect routine utility samples, including water, gases, and clean steam
- Support clean utilities performance qualifications such as water for injection and compressed air systems
- Assist with laboratory startup activities
- Execute routine laboratory tasks, including cleaning and inventory management
- Accurately enter data in LIMS and LMES systems
- Support scheduled weekend and public holiday monitoring activities as required
Qualifications
Top Skills (Must-Haves):
- Basic science background (degree or prior laboratory experience)
- Knowledge of aseptic technique
- Proficiency in good documentation practices
Required Experience & Skills:
- Science degree or prior laboratory experience
- Understanding of aseptic technique
- Ability to follow good documentation practices (GDP/GLP knowledge preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility to work split-week schedules, including weekends
- Comfort working in both laboratory and manufacturing floor environments
Preferred:
- Environmental monitoring experience in academic or professional settings
- Familiarity with microbiology concepts
- Experience with GLP, GDP, or GMP environments
- Prior hands-on laboratory experience
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Perform environmental monitoring sampling in classified areas
- Collect routine water and gas utility samples
- Operate equipment such as microbial air samplers and particle counters
- Record and manage data in LIMS and LMES
- Follow assigned split-week schedule and support weekend activities as needed
Education (Basic Qualifications)
- High school diploma/GED and 2 years of work experience OR
- Associate’s degree and 6 months of work experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree
