Job Title: Bilingual Reader/Scribe (English/Spanish) – As Needed
Location: Various Maryland Judiciary Court Locations
Position Type: Temporary / On-Call
Salary: $25–$30 per hour
Position Overview
Our client, The Maryland Judiciary Court System, seeks qualified individuals to serve as Bilingual Readers/Scribes on an as-needed basis. This role provides essential support to individuals with disabilities or language barriers during court proceedings and related activities. The position requires fluency in English and Spanish and the ability to accurately read aloud and transcribe spoken or written content without altering meaning.
Key Responsibilities
- Read documents aloud in English or Spanish for individuals who require assistance.
- Accurately transcribe spoken responses into written form during court proceedings or examinations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality; do not provide advice or interpret content beyond reading/scribing.
- Follow Maryland Judiciary protocols and ADA accommodation guidelines.
- Report to designated court staff and complete assignments as scheduled.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Demonstrated fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written).
- Ability to read clearly and write legibly under time constraints.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to confidentiality requirements.
- Professional demeanor and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a reader/scribe or in a court/legal setting.
- Familiarity with ADA accommodations and judiciary procedures.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates will be required to complete Spanish proficiency assessments as part of the recruitment process.
- Must pass a background check prior to assignment.
