PRINCIPAL
(two positions)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Requirements as set by State Certification Authorities.
- Previous school administration experience and teaching experience.
- Graduate studies at a recognized school in Administration or a related area to include a Master’s Degree.
- Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable within state law.

JOB GOAL:
As a line member of school management under the direction of the Superintendent, and his assistants, the Principal recommends and administers approved policies and programs to meet the educational needs of his school; recommends for employment; supervises and evaluates the work of the personnel in his building and reports their progress to the Superintendent; recommends a budget to meet the educational and physical needs of his building; evaluates all phases of the activities and programs of his school; and maintains and enhances his school’s and the District’s standing in all major internal and external relationships.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operation
- Plan, coordinate and direct the educational program for his building, within established policies. The principal may delegate portions of these responsibilities together with proportionate authority but he may not delegate or relinquish his ultimate responsibilities for results or any portion of his accountability.
- Initiate and recommend plans and programs for methods, practices, procedures or facilities for the improvement of the overall educational program in his building. Direct and coordinate the execution of approved programs.
- Keep staff informed of the educational program, policies, and regulations of the District.
- Promote and enhance the relations of this school and the District among the general public, taxpayers, parents, employees, students and others.
- Report periodically the activities and progress of his staff including its performance against approved objectives and programs.
Organization
- Recommend the organization and staff of the office, custodial department and professionals to meet the approved objectives of the school.
Personnel
- Recommend and administer approved personnel policies and procedures of the district in his school.
- Recommend teacher assignments, including supplementary contracts for his building.
- Counsel regularly with teachers in order to help them to develop improved effectiveness in teaching.
- Direct and control pupil behavior and discipline, recommend action to be taken in extreme and/or legal cases.
- Recommend to the Superintendent and administer approved procedures for classification and promoting of pupils.
- Administer, organize, and develop procedures, facilities and forms of pupil records and accounting.
- Enforce safety regulations, recommend improved procedures, and direct programs for enhancing the safety consciousness of all staff and pupils throughout his building.
- Maintain the security of the building and its operations. Approve all procedures and programs prepared by the Superintendent’s Office relative to maintenance, custodial functions, cafeteria operations, purchase specifications and such other matters as may effect the efficient operation of his educational program.
- Keep the Superintendent fully informed as to the conditions, needs and operation of the school.
- Prepare such reports as are requested by the Superintendent and required by law.
- Advise the Superintendent of Schools regarding the need for personnel in the building and assist in their selection. Shall also be responsible for recommending to the Superintendent the dismissal, retention, or promotion of personnel.
- Shall be responsible for assigning duties and responsibilities to staff personnel within the building and report same to the Superintendent.
- Shall be responsible for a periodic accounting of all funds belonging to the school district which come into their possession as well as those held in student activity accounts.
- Shall be responsible for developing the daily schedule of classes and the assignment of pupils within the framework of school system policy.
- Shall be responsible for those activities which are associated with the opening and closing of the school year.
- Shall be available for conference with parents, students and visitors to the school.
- Shall initiate and direct such research as is necessary for improvement of instruction and the administration of the school.
- Shall keep the community informed of the needs, program and achievements of the school and cooperate with civic groups for the improvement of public education.
- Shall determine the need for textbooks, equipment, and supplies and shall establish procedures governing their requisition and distribution. Shall also be responsible for their economic and efficient use.
- Shall organize and develop with the staff such in-service education activities as will lead to increased professional competency.
- Shall administer the laws of the state with respect to the health, safety, and welfare of pupils.
Finances
- Initiate, develop, coordinate, justify, and recommend the building budget to the Superintendent.
- Control expenses within approved budgetary limits securing as required a statement of current expenditures for their building against the general budget from the business Office.
General
- Perform other tasks as may from time to time be assigned.
COMPENSATION:
As negotiated with the Gloucester Township Principal’s Association.
Salary Range - $114,000 - $159,000

In accordance with the Gloucester Township Principal’s Association contract (12 month contract).
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
Salary : $114,000 - $159,000
