Litigation Legal Assistant/Secretary
The Litigation Legal Assistant/Secretary will provide office administrative support within a legal environment. We are currently a 32-attorney regional law firm with offices in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, practicing in the area of civil litigation and insurance defense, with a focus on professional liability defense. The litigation legal assistant/secretary will work with multiple attorneys providing a full range of support. The successful candidate possesses at least 2 years recent legal litigation secretary experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide support for up to four attorneys and backup support as needed
Experience with E-filing programs, Odyssey and Pacer (RI state and federal)
Preparation and revision of correspondence, litigation pleadings, and other clerical assignments as directed
Familiarity with procedure for filing civil motions in the Rhode Island Superior and District Courts
Scheduling depositions
Calendar management
Answer phones and communicate with clients on a daily basis
Run conflict checks and open new client matters as requested
Maintain docketing for litigation attorneys
Transcribe electronic dictation
Other general office administration functions, including ordering office supplies
Required Skills:
At least 2 years recent legal secretarial experience within a law firm, providing administrative support in the litigation practice area; experience with insurance defense matters is a plus
Typing 65 wpm
Familiarity with RI state and federal rules and procedures
Must have a solid understanding of technical legal terminology as well as court filings
Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent proofreading skills
Ability to multi-task, and timely respond to deadlines as well as balance workload
Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required
Experience with iManage is a plus
