What are the responsibilities and job description for the Control Engineer position at Adient?
We are seeking a motivated Controls Engineer to support and enhance automation systems critical to our automotive production lines, specifically in the assembly of seating and overhead systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional with hands-on PLC experience looking to grow in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
Controls & Automation
- Troubleshoot, program, and maintain PLC systems
- Work with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix platforms and Studio 5000
- Diagnose PLC ladder logic and data handling issues
- Maintain and back up PLC programs and documentation
- Support I/O devices including HMIs, scanners, sensors, relays, solenoids, and remote I/O
Engineering & Process Support
- Assist with process evaluations related to engineering changes
- Review controls drawings and provide technical feedback
- Support equipment specifications and controls design discussions
Continuous Improvement & Quality
- Participate in PFMEA and root cause analysis (8D, etc.)
- Support Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and poka-yoke initiatives
- Identify process abnormalities and implement corrective actions
Maintenance Support
- Assist maintenance teams in troubleshooting equipment and automation systems
- Support pneumatic and instrumentation troubleshooting
What We’re Looking For
- 4–5 years of experience in controls or automation
- Hands-on experience with: Allen-Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000 and ControlLogix systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (preferred, not required)
