JOB DESCRIPTION

Mission of the position:
The Controller supports the company’s financial and accounting operations with a strong
focus on inventory management and cost accounting, maintaining accurate financial
records, inventory valuation, and cost reporting to support margin control, cash flow, and
informed operational decision-making. The role requires regular on-site performance of
essential job functions at the Johnston & Rhodes facility in East Branch, NY, and plays a
key role in maintaining margin and operational visibility by managing inventory from raw
block through finished product while supporting finance, inventory, and production teams.
Responsibilities:
- Process and verify daily sales transactions, including collecting, posting, and reconciling customer payments.
- Compile, review, and code vendor bills for submission to Accounts Payable, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Monitor and follow up on open Accounts Receivable balances in coordination with the AR team.
- Maintain and update accounting records, databases, and workpapers.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and financial reporting preparation.
- Assist with audit preparation by organizing documentation and responding to audit requests.
- Collect and validate daily production data from the yard and manufacturing operations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records from raw block through finished product.
- Enter, assemble, and reconcile inventory using company accounting and inventory systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Excel) to reflect true production costs.
- Update and maintain daily inventory counts and prepare inventory and valuation reports.
- Incorporate labor, machine time, pallets, and other production inputs into inventory assemblies to ensure cost accuracy.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the company’s cost accounting system.
- Prepare and analyze cost reports related to manufacturing and quarrying processes.
- Run daily and weekly inventory and cost reports to track productivity, costs, and yield.
- Track production costs and variances, and assist in identifying trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Support cycle counts and inventory audits to help maintain inventory accuracy.
- Work closely with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable to support proper reliefof finished goods and accurate vendor billing.
- Coordinate with operations and production teams to resolve inventory discrepancies andcost-related issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA certification preferred but not required.
- Proven experience in financial management, accounting or related roles.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, tax compliance standards, and financial audit processes.
