We are seeking a Project Estimator to support our expanding preconstruction and estimating team. This role is responsible for developing accurate mechanical construction estimates and supporting bid strategy for commercial projects.
This position works closely with project managers, field leadership, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure competitive, accurate, and complete mechanical bids.
Job Summary
The Project Estimator is responsible for preparing cost estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects including HVAC systems, plumbing, piping, and specialty mechanical installations.
The estimator analyzes construction drawings and specifications, performs material and labor takeoffs, solicits subcontractor pricing, and develops detailed cost proposals that align with company installation methods and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bid Preparation
Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems.
Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations.
Assemble complete bid packages for commercial mechanical projects.
Preconstruction Support
Participate in internal bid reviews and strategy discussions.
Identify scope gaps, risk factors, and constructability considerations.
Support conceptual budgets and preliminary cost modeling.
Assist with value engineering and cost-saving solutions.
Project Transition
Participate in handoff meetings with project managers and operations teams.
Ensure estimate assumptions, scope details, and pricing are properly communicated.
Maintain organized documentation for estimate files and bid records.
Qualifications
3–7 years of mechanical construction estimating experience
Experience estimating commercial HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical piping systems
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Strong understanding of mechanical construction materials, labor productivity, and installation methods
Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Technical Skills
Strong technical proficiency with construction estimating and project management software including Procore for bid coordination and document management
Trimble estimating and takeoff tools for mechanical cost development, and Bluebeam Revu for digital plan review, measurements, and collaboration.
Advanced skills in Microsoft - Excel proficiency is required for estimate analysis, labor calculations, and bid tabulation.
Candidates should be comfortable performing digital takeoffs, managing construction drawings and specifications, organizing bid documents, and coordinating subcontractor and vendor pricing through construction management and estimating platforms.
Experience reviewing subcontractor proposals and vendor pricing
Preferred
Experience estimating commercial mechanical projects $500K – $10M
Mechanical contractor or specialty trade contractor experience
Experience with design-build or negotiated construction projects
Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
