Job Title: State Government Affairs ManagerIndustry: Trade Association / Financial Services / PaymentsLocation (City, State): Washington, DC (Hybrid)Assignment Type: Indefinite Contract (with potential for contract-to-hire)Pay: $35–$38 per hour (depending on experience)Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PMBenefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).About Our Client:Addison Group is partnering with one of our association-based clients to identify a State Government Affairs Manager to support advocacy and policy initiatives within the payments and financial technology space. Our client represents organizations operating across electronic payments, financial services, and related technologies and plays an active role in shaping public policy at the state level.Job Description:The State Government Affairs Manager will support state-level legislative and regulatory efforts impacting the payments industry. This role focuses on policy analysis, legislative tracking, advocacy coordination, and strategic communications. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working independently, and experienced in fast-paced, policy-driven environments.This position manages a function rather than people and works closely with senior leadership to provide insights, materials, and recommendations related to government affairs activity.Key Responsibilities:Monitor, analyze, and track state legislation and regulatory developments affecting the industryPrepare summaries, reports, and briefings for senior leadership and stakeholdersDraft policy-related materials such as issue briefs, comment letters, testimony support, and advocacy contentAssist in the development and execution of state-level advocacy strategiesCoordinate with internal teams and external partners to align messaging and policy positionsMaintain legislative tracking tools and documentation on emerging trendsSupport grassroots initiatives, meetings, fly-ins, and educational events (virtual and in-person)Provide legislative and regulatory updates to internal audiences as a subject matter resourceAdapt quickly to shifting priorities and time-sensitive policy needsContribute to special projects and initiatives aligned with organizational goalsQualifications:3–4 years of relevant experience in government affairs, policy analysis, advocacy, communications, or regulatory workPrior experience within an association, trade group, or policy-focused organization strongly preferredStrong understanding of state legislative processes and government operationsProven ability to research, analyze, and explain complex policy issues clearlyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environmentProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting toolsBachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communications, English, Public Policy, or a related field preferredFamiliarity with payments or financial services is a plus, but not requiredAdditional Details:Indefinite temporary role with the possibility of conversion for the right candidateStart date targeted for early JanuaryOvertime eligible, as neededTeam size: small, collaborative government affairs groupWorks closely with a remote VP and an on-site executive leaderPerks:Opportunity to work on impactful policy and advocacy initiativesHybrid work environmentExposure to senior leadership and high-level government affairs workAddison Group support throughout the assignmentAddison Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
