Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Accounting & Analysis
- Oversee all inventory accounting activities, including valuation, reserves, standard costing, and monthly inventory close.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of COGS, purchase price variances, overhead absorption, and inventory adjustments.
- Monitor cycle counts and physical inventory results; analyze discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Own reconciliation of inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger.
- Lead month-end close for inventory-related accounts and support financial statement preparation.
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to monitor material usage, scrap, variances, and production processes.
- Provide insights and reporting on inventory trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Support implementation or optimization of ERP systems, inventory modules, and related technology.
- Develop and enhance internal controls around inventory, fixed assets, and cost accounting.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual accounting processes.
- Create and maintain inventory accounting policies, SOPs, and documentation.
- Manage and mentor staff responsible for inventory accounting and cost accounting.
- Provide training to operational teams on inventory control and accounting best practices.
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors on inventory-related matters.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus in inventory or cost accounting.
- Experience in manufacturing, CPG, retail, distribution, or supply chain-driven organizations required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, inventory valuation methods (FIFO, standard cost, weighted average), and cost accounting concepts.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Workday, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, models).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills; able to translate data into insights.
