Addison Central School DistrictMiddle Level Literacy Instructional Specialist (Grades 68)20262027 School YearAddison Central School District is seeking to hire a full-time Literacy Instructional Specialist to join two other instructional specialists on our middle school team. The Literacy Instructional Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing high-quality, grade-level literacy instruction across classrooms in alignment with ACSDs curricular commitments and the Common Core State Standards. This role prioritizes ensuring that all students engage with complex, grade-level texts, develop strong analytical reading skills, and produce clear, evidence-based writing.The Instructional Specialist provides leadership, partnership, and guidance through co-planning, co-teaching, and coaching cycles. This position focuses on strengthening Tier 1 core instruction, elevating high-leverage literacy practices, and ensuring access and high quality learning for all learners through the implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).In addition to providing direct classroom support, the Instructional Specialist collaborates with teachers, administrators, curriculum coordinators, and other staff to promote academic excellence, improve student outcomes, and foster a culture of reflection, inquiry, and continuous learning.Key Responsibilities: Instruction & CoachingCo-plan and support the design of standards-aligned, grade-level literacy instruction grounded in complex literary and informational textsSupport the integration of reading, writing, speaking, and listening within daily instructionEnsure learning experiences emphasize: Close reading and text analysisUse of textual evidence to support thinkingAcademic discourse and student-centered discussionCurriculum, Assessment & AlignmentSupport implementation of Common Core-aligned reading and writing instructionEnsure alignment between classroom assessments, state standards, and district assessment criteriaFacilitate the use of common rubrics Lead calibration of student work to build shared expectations for grade-level proficiencyUse student data and work to inform instructional decisionsProfessional Learning & CollaborationFacilitate professional learning on: Grade-level text instructionText analysis and evidence-based writingUDL and inclusive practicesInstructional and assessment alignmentSupport collaborative team structures (PLCs, vertical teams)
